Vietnam - Update of the draft National Chemical Inventory 2020

The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam published the new drafted National Chemical Inventory (NCI) in March 2020.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) of Vietnam published the new drafted National Chemical Inventory (NCI) in March 2020 (link). The NCI is being developed by the “Vinachemia” (Vietnam Chemical Agency). The current version consists of 36,777 substances.

Vinachemia is now accepting additional chemical information to the system. Industry currently importing substances into Vietnam which are not yet on the newly drafted NCI can submit the data for the substance nomination until 30 May 2020.

Industry should provide the following information related to the chemical substances:

  • Name of the substance
  • CAS RN
  • Safety data sheet (SDS)
  • Documents proving that chemicals have been used/marketed in Vietnam (such as purchase contracts or invoices)

According to the chemical management plan, any substance not listed in the NCI will be treated as a “new substance” in Vietnam after the Vinachemia finalized the NCI. Thus, we strongly recommend that you try to list all your substances which you are currently selling to Vietnam on the NCI to avoid any issues with import at a later stage.
