Korea will revoke temporary maximum residue limits (MRLs) by the end of next year. If you need to transfer a temporary MRL into a permanent one before revocation, you should take action now.

The representative of the Korean MFDS reminded the participants of the MRL Harmonization Workshop at the end of May that application for Import Tolerances should be submitted no later than March 2021.

All temporary Korean MRLs will be revoked by the end of December 2021, and instead default MRLs of <0.01 ppm become effective. This will stop imports of crops with pesticide residues higher than the default level into Korea.

A temporary, simplified petition procedure exempts from the requirement to submit residue summaries translated into Korean (until Dec 2021) and allows the submission of residue data (in English) from JMPR, EPA or EFSA submissions.

A list of Application Criteria of Pesticide MRLs for agricultural commodities you will find here (in Korean language).

Please feel free to contact Elvira Keller from our experienced Import Tolerance Team for assistance with your desired petitions.
