On 15 January 2019, ECHA updated its Candidate List by adding six new substances of very high concern (SVHC). The new entries include four polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) which can be contained in rubber and plastics as an impurity. Besides the four PAHs, the UV filter 1,7,7-Trimethyl-3-(phenylmethylen)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-on and BPA analogue 2,2-Bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-4-methylpentan have been added to the list. The Candidate list now contains 197 chemical substances.

There are several legal obligations for suppliers resulting from the inclusion of a substance in the Candidate List. These obligations do not only apply to the listed substance itself, but also to mixtures and articles that contain the listed substance, and may include communication obligations down the supply chain towards customers and consumers, or even the need to notify to ECHA within 6 months.

To ensure compliance for your products, it is strongly recommended to check whether you are affected by these obligations.
